Glued solid timber constructions and their usage in construction
Timber is the only widely-available material which is naturally renewable. From the viewpoint of life-cycle, timber as a construction material is environment-favorable for several reasons – it reduces the usage of natural resources, energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions and waste; it is environment-friendly, well-suited for designing and creation of living-space, and it is emotionally effective.
To use timber resources more effectively and improve upon timber characteristics, timber gluing has long been preoccupying the minds of people. Initially, there were problems in manufacturing of glued timber, as there was no adhesive sufficiently resistant to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. This was solved only in the fifties of the 20th century – it was when the creation of adhesives resistant to atmospheric influences allowed the development of factory-manufactured glued timber building parts.
For the manufacturing of bearing timber constructions, our company "Super Bebris" is using a made-in-Switzerland adhesive Purbound HB 530, which has been tested in Otto-Graf-Institute, in accordance with the DIN 68141 regulation. Purbond HB 530 adhesive has been deemed appropriate for bonding of all types of timber constructions, whose requirements are in accordance with DIN 1052 and EN 301 (bonding of bearing timber constructions). Owing to our technologies and our serious attitude towards work, we have received the Ltd. "Inžnierekspertīžu centrs" Construction products certification centre certificate of conformity No. 001762, which attests the conformity of our building materials to the following regulations, documents, certifications systems, types and usage conditions, as well as other provisions.
Glued timber building parts are mainly manufactured of spruce, which is characterized by both firmness and elasticity, low shrinkage and high durability. Bonding of much smaller timber elements ensures that the building parts are particularly resistant, uniformly durable and stable in form. A body of much smaller parts bound in this way allows creating building parts of almost any shape. It is also important to note that glued timber building parts are ecologically clean, light, durable, with good heat insulation, suppress noise and vibrations, are resistant against aggressive substances and liquids, and are easy to treat. Also of importance is the inclusion of such glued timber building parts to ensure building microclimate factors. Timber improves health and comfort, reduces stress and effectively regulates moisture in rooms. Ltd. "Super Bebris" offers manufacturing of high-quality glued timber building parts for bearing constructions with the following cross-sections:
- Thickness/width: from 30 mm to 230 mm
- Height: from 80 mm to 1500 mm
- Length: up to 16 m (it is planned to shortly increase it to 24 m)
The term of the completion of the order is dependant on the cross-section of the ordered building parts. For instance, if the cross section of the ordered glued timber building parts is 100 mm x 200 mm x 10000 mm, then a volume of 20m3 is produced in four working days. In case of need, we can carry out timber building part coating with antiseptics and fireproofs. Our manufacturing capacity for glued timber building parts in a month is 600m3 to 1000m3.
